"To see in colour is a delight for the eye but to see in black and white is a delight for the soul." - Andri Cauldwell
The coal tit gets its name from its distinctive black cap. Not as colourful as some of its relatives but it doesn't seem to mind as it is relatively shy. It grabs seeds and then dashes off, especially when other birds arrive in the garden. At times when food is plentiful, it hoards food by hiding it in many locations so that it can retrieve it when meals become scarce. Unfortunately, the coal tit's memory does not match its ingenuity and so forgotten sunflower seeds may germinate in surprising places!
