Described as "Darjee" (urdu for tailor) by Rudyard Kipling in his story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi from the Jungle Book, the tailorbird gets its name from the way its nest is constructed. The edges of a large leaf or leaves are pierced and sewn together with plant fibre or spider silk to make a cradle in which the actual nest is built.
This little bird is known as "tuntuni" in Bengali and features in many a folklore.
