" Each moment of the year has its own beauty." -Ralph Waldo Emerson
The large Pipal tree (Ficus religosa / bodhi vruksha) at home begins to shed its dry leaves by the end of March. Dried leaves let go of the branches, falling gently, collecting on the rooftops and the ground below. Once totally bare, new leaves begin to sprout -changing colour from a brilliant red to a fresh green in a matter of a few days. Spring time in Pune is rather brief and coincides with the early summer months. The yellow flame trees (yellow poinciana) at home are brimming with yellow flowers that fall gently to the ground with the slightest breeze. The golden shower (Indian Laburnum) tree and the bougainvillea are exploding with fresh colours. Nature seems to be rejuvenating itself.
One common sight in this scape is the large grey babblers. These gregarious noisy birds arrive daily almost at the same time and according to me should be renamed "squabblers". They move clumsily from tree to tree and descend almost like falling leaves to their favourite place- the garage roof where a lot of dry pipal leaves have accumulated. They turn the leaves looking for tasty insects below.
