The grey francolin (formerly known as Indian grey partridge) is a species of francolin found in the plains and drier parts of India. They inhabit open grass and thorny-scrub country interspersed with cultivation.
They spend most of the time on the ground walking gracefully, pecking away at grain, seeds and insects.
The local Indian name "Teetar" comes from its similar sounding call "Ka-tee-tar...tee-tar".
