Finches are characterized by their stout, conical bills which are used to crack open the seeds that form the bulk of their diet.
"Rosefinches" as the word implies, have various shades of red in their plumage.
The pink-browed rosefinch is a passerine bird seen in the Himalayan mountain range in India, Nepal and Bhutan, mainly in montane forests, montane grasslands and shrublands. It is an altitudinal migrant.
Although the male is colourful, the female is satisfied with her drab brown plumage. The trek to Tungnath had uncovered a treasure trove of forest birds for me. I managed to click this male as it moved in and out of the pink rhododendron shrub.
